Spring chickens and old dogs

25/3/2015

Spring has come to the Perigord.

The blossoms are out on our peach and cherry trees and there are six new- born chicks in the maternity ward of our chicken coop, being watched over by their mum and our pheasants.

Sarko, the old cockerel, is darting around in the big new chicken coop, knocking over the young cockerel every time the newcomer tries to mount one of the hens.

On the sun-drenched lawn, Benson the elderly basset hound is rolling on his back as if he were a puppy, the first lettuce and radishes have been planted and it’s lunch in the open air from now on.

Meanwhile in rural Northamptonshire....

Winter still has it's fingers, albeit loosely, attached. Daffodils peak bravely through the detritus of the recent gales. The odd green shoots can be seen on the clematis round the front door...

Our 14 year old arthritic cat watches from her favourite chair in the conservatory the half hearted 'negotiations' of our neighbour's doves, whilst steadfastly refusing to go outside and chase the doves away.

The latest 'Bruno' has not yet arrived from Amazon, no sign of 'The Cookbook' in English yet, doom and gloom pervades everywhere.

Perhaps a visit to the 'The Everyday French Chef' for inspiration and that bottle of Chateau du Petit Lac for dinner tonight will lift the melancholia.

I feel better already!

I hope the melancholia lifted, and Amazon delivered - a bottle of Chateau du Petit Lac is a wonderful treat of an evening.

Oh to be Bruno's neighbor and leave the drag of US politics on my soul.

Current French politics leave rather a lot to be desired...

Waiting for the Cookbook in English here in Canada too. Is the latest Bruno book available on Kindle or Kobo yet?

According to amazon.ca, it will be released on Kindle at the end of this month:

I'm afraid I don't know about Kobo...

Here in Princeton, too, I look forward to Bruno cookbook. I am interested in hearing why it was first published in German. Today I give a talk at our local mystery club on Martin Walker and the Bruno books. What fun.

That's because it was the German publisher who first proposed a cookbook to accompany the series.

I hope your talk went well!
