Gastro-tourism in the Perigord

Enjoyed a very pleasant lunch in St Pompont with three new friends, Klaus, Mathilde, and Anna, who have started a company to organise gastro-tourism to the Perigord for English and German speakers.

The trick is that since they all work in the summer months, they are aiming at the low seasons of Spring and Fall.

But they know the area well, know their food, and know their Perigord history and culture. They will include truffle hunts with a friend of mine, Eduard Ayrou. It's a great idea and I wish them well. Check them out on cyranoreisen.jimbo.com

OK, I’m hooked! Love Bruno, cried when Gigi was shot, can’t wait to get to decent wifi so I can order some more “Bruno” books. I just finished The Crowded Grave and am about to start The Dark Vineyard. I taught French for thirty-five years and have lived and traveled extensively in France. Périgord is one of my favorite regions and the site of the best meal of my life. I noticed that in the novel and in writings about Mr. Walker, the expression the Perigord is used but he himself correctly calls it simply Périgord as one should. I’ve never been able to figure out why the same folks who discuss Brittany and Normandy, Lorraine and Berry, insist upon the Auvergne or the Perigord and the like. I suspect an over-zealous editor indulging in something akin to hypercorrection is at work. Perhaps a subtle hint is in order. Best regards!

It's the same with 'the Ukraine' and 'the Lebanon' - I don't know why some countries and regions are given erroneous articles... I myself occasionally slip into 'the Auvergne' more than I'd care to admit.

Hi Martin,
Just want to thank you for taking a coffee with us at Cauet's with
your friend Terez. I will also treasure the photo of us with Bruno and his newer police car. The reason for our stay in Perigord was because of your writings. Thank you! With our trusty rental a Renault Capture and GPS in hand we were
able to see the beautiful countryside of Dordogne. Had lovely meals in
Perigueux at Le Troquet and we met great ambassadors like Francis Delpey in Perigueux who introduced us to Thérèse Thomasset and the great Martin Walker!!
Thanks again for your gentle kindness. Warmest regards.

Thank you for your note and it was good to meet you. I'm delighted you got to know Therese and learned the charms of our lovely Perigord.

Best regards from Munich, where I'm on a German book tour.
