A glorious stroll today through little-known parts of the Vezere valley, through fields of wild garlic and amazing rock formations with Paul of walkingdordogne.com (his photos are terrific).

He and his parents run a great B&B called Le Ferme de Tayac. So tonight I'm making an omelette with goose eggs and wild garlic leaves, taken from the finest array of the stuff I've ever seen.

We are travelling to the Dordogne on May 4th. Wish St. Denis existed so we coud visit! Knowing this my brother gave a copy of Bruno Chief of Police for Christmas. I loved the book and am now most of the way through the 4th in the series, "The Crowded Grave". The combination of character, plot, food, wine, scenery etc.is a realwinner.

A question for you. On Page 177 of "The Crowded Grave"
should the brigadier not be saying that Horst's credit cards were not used i.e.is there a "no" missing in front of "activity" ?

You're right, there should be! Good catch.

Be careful, Rick. It is a slippery slope. I've got eight Bruno adventures lined up on my bookshelf and I'm breathlessly waiting for #9 in June.

Unfortunately it's not possible to stay at Le Ferme de Tayac with our dog...
But thanks for Bruno who REALLY inspires me. I just oredered "The dying season" and I hope you are ready with the new novel before I have finished "Fatal pursuit" !!!

I do wish more hotels were dog friendly! Plenty of dogs are hotel friendly...

I'm so glad to hear you like the books!

I'm afraid we're still working on it - as soon as I have a date I shall trumpet it wildly.

Bonjour Martin,
Inspired by your wonderful descriptions of the Dordogne we are visiting for the third time, this time with all the kids and grandkids. We have rented a home outside Sarlat for 16 of us. We will toast you with several glasses of Chateau Bruno.

I have read your Bruno books from ther first to the Devil's Cave and am staryong Resistance Man. I am throuoghly enjoying Bruno and his various activities in life: cooking, women, town politics, and, of course, policed interactions. My wife and I found your first book at a 'reading' in Toronto last November an have had fun with Bruno every since. Thank you. Thank you also as we have had two enjoyable visits to Fonfournel, Tursac, in Les Eyzies, and drove over much of the country from Bordeaux to Sarlat ... wonderful! Is St. Denis built on Le Bugue? So much of your writing brings this regional town to memory. Again, our deepest appreciation for your stories ... and your writing.

Well-spotted - St Denis is modelled on Le Bugue! I've woven in elements from other nearby towns and changed the names of the businesses, but with a careful eye you can follow Bruno's footsteps from boulangerie to cave...

Thank you for your response re. St. Denis, and for not commenting on my miss typing. Shocked to see it in print .. maybe need new glasses? Again, thank you for your stories around Bruno.

Far be it from me to comment on typos! You should see my original drafts before I let my wife and daughters loose on them with the red pens...
